TRUMP, XI AGREE STRlAIT OF HORMUZ MUST REMAIN OPEN

By; Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open amid growing tensions in the Middle East affecting global oil supply.

The White House said both leaders held a “good” meeting on Thursday and stressed the importance of keeping the vital shipping route accessible to support the free flow of energy worldwide.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key passage for global oil trade, with China heavily dependent on crude imports passing through the route from the Middle East.

According to the White House, Xi also expressed interest in increasing purchases of American oil to reduce China’s dependence on the strait in the future.
