The Niger State Government has commenced the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Jacob Baba-Yisa, who handed the project over to the contractor, said the upgrade reflects Governor Umaru Bago’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure and providing a suitable home ground for Niger Tornadoes FC.
He said the project would boost sports development, create opportunities for young athletes, and position the state to host major sporting events.
The contractor, led by Isaac Obonyano, assured the government that the project would be completed within 40 days. He said the work includes the installation of a modern synthetic pitch and the upgrade of key facilities to meet standard requirements.
On completion, the Bako Kontagora Stadium will serve as the home ground of Niger Tornadoes FC for the 2026/2027 NPFL season.
