ADC DEMANDS CREDIBLE 2027 ELECTIONS AS IRI BEGINS ASSESSMENT

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has called for free, fair, credible and transparent elections in 2027.

Mark made the call in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI), which is in Nigeria to assess preparations for the 2027 general elections.

He said the ADC was not seeking favours but expected all institutions involved in the electoral process to perform their duties and ensure the elections meet international standards.

The leader of the IRI delegation and African Regional Director, Jenai Cox, said the organisation would include lessons from the recent Osun and Ekiti off-cycle elections in its final assessment report. She also urged stakeholders to strengthen engagement and collaboration ahead of the 2027 polls.

Cox said IRI has monitored elections in Nigeria since 1999 in partnership with the National Democratic Institute.
