NIGERIA, IEA SIGN ENERGY PACT TO BOOST ENERGY SECURITY

Nigeria and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have signed a Joint Work Programme to strengthen energy policy, data and investment in the country.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the signing ceremony, described the agreement as a major step in strengthening Nigeria’s energy sector.
Shettima said the partnership would support better use of Nigeria’s oil, gas and renewable energy resources while improving energy security and economic growth.
IEA Executive Director, Fatih Birol, said the agency would support Nigeria in areas including clean cooking, gas markets, energy policy, data development and technical training.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the agreement would also provide technical support for energy data development and investment planning.
The Federal Government said the partnership would strengthen Nigeria’s participation in global discussions on energy security, affordability and sustainability.
