NCFRMI URGES STRONGER MIGRATION COORDINATION IN SOUTHEAST

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, NCFRMI, has called for stronger coordination of migration governance across the Southeast.
The Federal Commissioner of the Commission, Dr Aliyu Tijani Ahmed, made the call at the opening of the inaugural Southeast Migration Dialogue in Umuahia, Abia State.
Ahmed said the region faces unique migration challenges, including internal and international mobility, diaspora engagement and irregular migration. He also commended the Abia State Government for supporting indigenes who recently returned from South Africa.
He said the revised National Migration Policy 2025 provides a framework for addressing migration-related challenges.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, represented by his Deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, said migration must be properly managed to promote human capital and economic development.
He urged deliberate policies that would ensure Nigerians returning from abroad contribute their knowledge, capital and experience to the development of their communities.
The two-day dialogue is themed, “Partnership for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.”
