OYEBANJI VISITS FLOOD-HIT AREAS, PROMISES URGENT INTERVENTION

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has visited areas affected by flooding in Ado-Ekiti following a heavy downpour that reportedly claimed five lives and destroyed several properties.
The victims were reportedly swept away while returning home from work around Aayemi Garage and Elemi River.
Represented by his Deputy, Monisade Afuye, the governor inspected several affected communities, including Iwaro, Osodi, Elemi, Iremide Avenue, Aayemi Garage and Adebayo.
Oyebanji expressed concern over the loss of lives and promised immediate intervention to repair some of the bridges damaged by the flood.
He urged residents to take flood warnings seriously and avoid dumping refuse in drainage channels, building along waterways and travelling through floodwaters during heavy rainfall.
The governor said agencies including the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, National Emergency Management Agency and Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency had repeatedly warned residents about the risk of flooding.
The General Manager of SEMA, Oludare Asaolu, also urged residents to avoid building in flood-prone areas and adopt proper waste disposal practices.
Residents of the affected communities appealed to the government to urgently address the flooding around Elemi River and Aayemi Garage, saying the situation has disrupted movement and caused significant damage to property.
