The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says Zamfara State recorded 313,115 new voter registrations under the Continuous Voter Registration exercise as of August 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mahmuda Isah, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau, where he urged eligible voters who were yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to visit INEC offices across the state’s 14 local government areas.

Isah said ward-level PVC collection ended on October 15, 2026, but collection would continue at local government offices. He stressed that the process was free and cards must be collected personally by their owners.

He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, civil society groups and the media to intensify voter education, particularly in rural communities.

The REC also urged politicians to avoid violence, intimidation, hate speech and misinformation, assuring that INEC was working with security agencies to address potential threats ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, a civil society representative, Ambassador Ibrahim Tudu, urged INEC to clarify how internally displaced persons living in host communities could participate in the elections using their existing PVCs.

The meeting brought together political parties, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations and media representatives to discuss preparations for the 2027 elections and ways to improve PVC collection.
