EUROPEAN UNION AND THE GERMAN GOVERNMENT HAVE LAUNCHED THE THIRD PHASE OF THE NIGERIAN ENERGY SUPPORT PROGRAMME 31-10-24
By Sadiq Aminu The European Union and the German Government have launched the third phase of the Nigerian Energy Support Programme NESP.
The programme which is implemented by GIZ, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Power, is aimed at boosting investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and rural electrification.
The launch which took place in Abuja, is marking continued efforts to expand access to sustainable, clean energy across Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Power, Mahmuda MAMMAN who acknowledged the EU and Germany’s ongoing support noted that the third phase of the programme builds on earlier achievements and is expected to attract further investments aligned with Nigeria’s Electricity Act 2013.
Also speaking, the head of sections of Green and Digital Economy of European Union delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS Ms Inga Stefanowicz highlighted the importance of collaboration for a cleaner energy future.
She added that the EU’s additional funding for Nigeria ESP Phase Three will further boost renewable energy in Nigeria’s electricity mix and promote sustainable frameworks for reliable power.
Germany’s Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria, Johannes Lehne, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan.
He emphasized the role of renewable energy and efficient technologies in diversifying energy sources and decarbonizing critical sectors.
NESP which was first initiated in 2013, is a technical assistance programme co-funded by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
