By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The national Economic Council, NEC, has called on the federal government to withdraw the Tax Reform Bill currently at the National Assembly.

Briefing State House Correspondents after the council meeting presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said a presentation was made by the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, with emphasis on fair taxation, responsible borrowing and sustainable spending.

According to Governor Makinde, the Council acknowledged that the country was underperforming on all indices as regards yields from major revenue sources, however, it resolved that the Executive arm of government should withdraw the Tax bill to allow for wider consultations and address misconceptions.

Also briefing, the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo said the Council directed the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to commence a comprehensive integrity review of the state of waterways and dams across the federation to help mitigate the impact of flooding.

Governor Soludo said the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Utsev, told the council that the technical sub-committee appointed by President Tinubu on 8th October would soon submit an interim report through the Inter-Ministerial Committee to the President.

Professor Soludo added that the council also reviewed the National Emergency responses on the damages and the coordination between the States and Federal Government as well as outlined further steps to be taken.
