DIGITAL EDUCATION REFORMS, TACKLES CERTIFICATE FRAUD

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, says the Federal Government’s digital education reforms are strengthening the integrity of academic records and tackling certificate fraud.
Alausa made this known in Abuja during a meeting with the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, who led a delegation to the ministry.
The minister said the reforms would improve the verification of educational records and make it easier to identify genuine students and graduates.
He said the Nigerian Education Repository Data Bank (NERD) was collecting and verifying university certificates, while the ministry had also digitised its education support services, including certificate verification.
Alausa said the reforms would address challenges affecting qualified graduates, including discrepancies in names and issues surrounding part-time National Diploma and HND programmes.
He said the ministry would work with JAMB, NIMC, NBTE and other stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the challenges.
Nafiu commended the ministry’s digital reforms and pledged NYSC’s continued support. He said the Corps’ use of QR codes had significantly reduced document cloning and strengthened its verification system.
