NIGER TO SPEND 9.8 BILLION NAIRA ANNUALLY ON WARD DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS                                                                                                                   03-03-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       Ward Development Project in Niger State has been reintroduced to ensure growth at the grassroots.

To this end A Nine member State Ward Development Project Steering Committee has been inaugurated by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.

At a ceremony in Minna, the Governor said the State would spend over Nine Point Eight Billion naira annually for the project.

Ward Development Project was first introduced between 2007 and 2015 under Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu’s administration.

The project which was used to provide community healthcare centres and potable water among others was suspended during the Eight Years of the immediate past administration in the State.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed optimism that the long awaited reintroduction of the initiative would directly enhance grassroots development and bring people closer to the Government.

He said the State would release Eight Hundred and Twenty Two million naira monthly with each of the two Hundred and Seventy Four Wards in the State receiving Three million naira for the execution of a project unanimously agreed by members of each ward.

The Governor while describing the task ahead as enormous urged the State Ward Development Project Committee to inaugurate Local and ward committees for a smooth take off.

The Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji Falalu Bako Mohammed said the Committee would embark on citizens engagement to achieve the objectives.

Some of the members of the Committee are the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo, Vice Chairman, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajiya Binta Mamman member, and Dr Yakubu Mohammed Bello as Secretary.
