ICPC PUSHES FOR WHISTLEBLOWER BILL, SEIZES BILLIONS IN ASSETS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called on the National Assembly to fast-track the passage of the Whistleblower Bill, saying it will protect citizens who expose corruption.

Speaking at a media engagement in Kano, ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu stressed that the bill will give Nigerians the confidence to report corruption without fear, while urging journalists to drive accountability through factual reporting.

He disclosed that the Commission has seized 14 buildings, 25 plots of land, three farmlands, and recovered cash running into billions of naira and over a million dollars in the Northwest and Northeast. Over 1,400 projects worth ₦271 billion have also been tracked, many revived thanks to citizens and journalists who flagged abandoned works.

Dr. Aliyu noted that more Nigerians are rejecting bribery, with refusal rates in the North rising sharply. Reports of corruption have also grown, with more cases now leading to formal action.

He described the fight against corruption as key to peace, trust, and development, adding that citizens’ courage is driving real change.
