European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has called on Eurozone countries to deepen financial integration and strengthen capital markets to boost the international role of the euro.
In the ECB’s annual report on the international role of the euro, Lagarde warned that growing geopolitical tensions and the rise of new payment systems, including stablecoins, are reshaping global finance.
She said Europe must act decisively to make the euro more competitive globally, stressing that stronger and more integrated financial markets would enhance the currency’s appeal and resilience.
Lagarde added that changing global dynamics present an opportunity for the euro to expand its international influence if policymakers take the necessary steps.
