Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified search and rescue operations for the abducted Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, after armed terrorists attacked his residence in the early hours of Saturday.
The military said troops responded immediately to the attack, engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, and rescued five family members, including the chairman’s wife, mother, two children, and a relative. However, the attackers escaped into nearby bushes with the chairman.
The attack left two police officers, one local vigilante, and a civilian dead, while the chairman’s elder brother sustained injuries.
The OPFY Theatre Command said it has launched a coordinated rescue operation with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes. Security forces are combing suspected hideouts to secure the chairman’s safe release.
The command urged residents to remain calm and support the ongoing operation by providing credible information through established security channels.
