SKILLS ACQUISITION: ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNOR ENCOURAGES YOUTHS TO ACQUIRE SKILLS                                                                                                  29-09-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        Parents and religious institutions have been enjoined to embark on orientation of youths to embrace the One Youth Two Skills program initiated by the Anambra State government.

The Anambra State House of Assembly made the call through a resolution during plenary at the legislative Chambers in Awka.

The sponsor of the Motion and member representing Anaocha constituency two, Chief Ejike Okechukwu said there was the need for stakeholders including town unions to encourage the youths to key into all the formal and informal skills acquisition windows available in the state as a quicker way of attaining self reliance.

According to him,if the youths are well sensitized the laudable project initiated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo will no doubt go a long way in reducing the rate of unemployment and provide food for the people.

Mr Jude Akpua representing Njikoka Constituency two, who said the motion is aimed at helping the youths stand on their feet, explained that the ball was in the court of parents , religious bodies and stakeholders to create awareness and sensitize the youth who are fast embracing get rich quick syndrome against known morals of the society.

Mr Akpua Commended the Governor for the initiative which he said many youths had keyed into it and are doing great exploits already in various constituencies across the state.

The member representing Aguata Constituency two, Mr Tony Moubike, noted that though the present day youths got the wrong orientation about life , anyone empowered with two skills as envisaged by the present administration can never go hungry as practical knowledge continues to be in high demand.

Mr Anayo Okpalaeke of Aguata Constituency One, said the motion is in tandem with the vision of the Soludo led administration which is aimed at fighting crime and discouraging the youths from moral decadence.

Mr Okpalaeke noted that for the future of the youths to be secured, the stakeholders need to step up and insist that the right things are done to reduce insecurity and guarantee food security.

Mr Jude Ngaobili, representing Ihiala Constituency One, observed that the society is dynamic, commending the Governor for coming up with the One youth two skills idea which is targeting the future of the people.

Mr Umennajiego recommended total reorientation of the youths to move away from the current trend of native doctors who exploit people in the social media in the name of getting rich quick.

For Mr Nonso Atuchukwu representing Nnewi South Constituency One, when youths embrace skill acquisition programmes with necessary zeal, they will compete favorably in the international community where practical experiences have become the order of the day.

The Speaker, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze while lending his voice to the motion, noted that the orientation of the youths have become the responsibility of everyone and therefore charged the law makers to be in the forefront of the campaign in their various constituencies.

Correspondent Sadiq Aminu reports that the House adjourned plenary till Tuesday, third October.
