OHIKU-EGBIRA DESCENDANTS UNION HOLDS IT’S ANNUAL EVENT AT THE OLD PARADE GROUND, ABUJA 14-10-23
By Sadiq Aminu The Ohiku-Egbira Descendants Union had it’s world convention at the old parade ground, area 10, Abuja. The City of Abuja was filled to the brim as the entire Egbira people converge to celebrate their annual event and get together in a very spectacular manner. The theme of the event is “2023 World Ohiku day/Convention.” The event was attended by Ebiras in the Federal Capital Territory, Abaji, Toto, Umasha, Mozum, Kotonkarfe, Okene and Akoko Edo. The chairman of the OED Alhaji Ado Ohinoyi Shuaibu, the former secretary to kogi state government, said that the Ebira Opete, Egbira Miyankan and Egbira Etuno are all one since they all understand one another. He traced the history of the formation of OED to 20 years ago when it all started. He said the success achieved by the OED is enormous and that all elders, the chiefs and the board of trustees have agreed that for proper identification and national recognition all Ebira Opete, Egbira meyakan and Egbira Etuno should hence use the spelling of “EGBIRA” as the ratified spelling of all OED world wide. He outlines the successes of the OED to include the empowerment of members in area of skill acquisition and training. He encourage inter marriages amongst members. He also talk about the creation of different committees such peace and reconciliation etc. In his welcome address, the chairman board of trustees of OED major general Mohammed Chris Ali RTD said that there is urgent need for unity and progress amongst the OED. The bit chairman recognized the useful contributions and cooperations and support received from members of BOT, elders, all the traditional rulers in all the Egbira kingdom. He urged all Ohikuysons and daughters to embrace the new name and employ it’s usage so that we can ascertain our total population to enable us.utilise our rightfull place amongst the committee of nations, as our aggregate popular has a significant political importance. The sidelines of the occasion was the launching of the colourful EGBIRA attires such as the traditional cap, mufflers, finely knitted fabric and emblems. The characteristic and colourful features of the Egbira Opete traditional masquerades were not left out amongst the other cultural troops that entertained guests at the occasion with various aesthetics and dances. The royal highnesses that attended the occasion are his royal highness alhaji Abdulrahman Ado Ibrahim the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, HRH alhaji Abdurazak Gambo Isa-Koto, the Ohimege Igu of Kotonkarfe, his royal highness Khalid Bukar the Ohiegba of Mozum all from Kogi state, HRH alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, the Ona of Abaji and chairman Federal Capital Territory Traditional Council, his royal highness Alhaji Abubakar Umar Azaki Ohinoyi Ogye of Toto, his royal highness Alhaji Usman Abdullahi the Ohimege Opanda of Umasha all from Nassarawa state and the HRH the Oba E. A. Saiki ll JP Otaru of Etuno- paramount ruler of Igarra/Akuku Clan from Edo state. Others are senator Tunde Ogbeha, representative of Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo the governorship candidate of APC in Kogi state. The representative of Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the executive governor of kogi state. The chairman of Akoko Edo local government council in Edo state. Barrister Shaba Ibrahim, Barrister Tanko, The Odovidi Anebira of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and other too numerous to mention. Others who attended are friends, family and well wishers of the Ohiku-Egbira Descendants Union world wide. Indeed, it was a reunion of large families and a moment of sober reflection.
