SCAVENGING: NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT BANS OPEN SCAVENGING                                                                                                          15-10-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        Henceforth, open scavenging has been banned throughout the twenty five local government Areas of Niger state.

The General Manager Niger State Environmental Protection Agency NISEPA Dr Abubakar Mohammed announced this at a meeting with members of the state chapter of Scrap Metal Dealers Association of Nigeria in Minna.

Dr Abubakar Mohammed however warned that anyone found to have been engage in the act will be prosecuted to serve as deterent to others.

According to him this is part of efforts at providing an enabling environment for the success of Niger state Governor Mohammed Umar Bago Urban Renewal policy in which conducive environment he said, is key and implored Nigerlites to give maximum support to the exercise to succeed.

Dr Abubakar Mohammed also spoke of plans by his Agency to introduce the use of bin bags in household where waste is going to be put into tight and brought back to street for disposal by his men at an affordable price to keep Niger state clean.

The NISEPA General Manager however, expressed happiness that members of Niger state chapter of the Scrap Metal Dealers Association of Nigeria have unanimously agreed to support this programme to ensure its successful execution.

In his remarks the Chairman  Scrap Metal Dealers Association of Nigeria Niger state chapter Alh Abba Gambo explained that there is no need of prosecution because his members listen to them and that they will comply with the directive.

Alh Abba Gambo added that members of the Association are ready to support any initiative targeted at developing and enhancing the capacity of his members to thrive and by extension Niger state and Nigeria.
