COALITION OF YOUTHS IN PLATEAU STATE PLEDGES TO BREAK CYCLE OF VIOLENCE                                                                                                               18-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     Following the persistent attacks on defenceless people in some parts of Plateau state, a coalition of youths have expressed their determination to engage in peace building process to break the cycle of violence.

Chairman, Plateau state Youth Council, PYC Comrade Lot Adas gave the assurance during a sensitisation and trauma healing summit organised for youths of four local government areas recently affected by crisis

Africa 247 Correspondent reports that the programme was organised by the Plateau Youth Council in collaboration with the state Ministry for Youths and Sports Development and the Special Task Force in the state Code named Operation Safe Haven.

The sensitisation and trauma healing summit with the theme Robust and Result-Oriented Collaboration among the Youths, Security Agencies and the Government; a sine quanon for achieving Peace and Security, brought together youths from Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Bokkos local government areas.

The Youth Council Chairman, Comrade Adas said the persistent security challenges that have tormented some communities in the local government areas desired the need for the Youths to be proactive and contribute towards bringing lasting solutions.

Commander Operation Safe Haven, General Abdulsalam Ibrahim represented by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Michael Agi stressed the need for forgiveness and tolerance to achieve the needed peace and healing, and urged people to deal with mistrust which often result to attacks and reprisal.

He warned communities against harbouring criminal elements and advised the youths to desist from extra judicial activities which could lead to retaliation.

The Guest speaker and public affairs Analyst, Santos Larrap While highlighting critical importance of the youths, security and government emphasized that peace can only be achieved through deliberate efforts.

State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Bashir Datti who described the programme as timely, noted that people have been traumatized due to incessant killings and destruction of property.

He therefore advised the people to embrace one another irrespective of their different affiliations and give peace a chance.
