KNHA SETS UP AD-HOC COMMITTEE TO SCREEN 44 LGAs’ CARETAKER NOMINEES 05-03-24
By Sadiq Aminu The Kano State House of Assembly has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to screen the nominees for the 44 local government caretaker committees in the state.
This was a sequel to deliberations on the floor of the house during a plenary session presided over by the speaker Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Earlier the state governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf submitted a letter seeking the house approval for the appointment of the 44 local government caretaker committee nominees as stipulated by the law.
Some of the nominees include Abdulhamid Jibril Albasu, Abdullahi Zubairu Cula Ajingi, Bello Abdullahi Gadanya Bagwai, Bashir Abubakar Kofa Bebeji Ado Kado Bichi among others.
The majority leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala explained that section 58 A of local government law states that, in the event of the expiration of the tenure of the local government council in the state, it becomes imperative to conduct an election or the governor to appoint a sole administrator or caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the LGA for three months.
After careful deliberations, the house unanimously adopted the motion and set up an adhoc to screen the nominees on Wednesday 6th March 2024.
In a similar development, the executive has nominated commissioners and a secretary of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).
The nomination followed the resignation of Idris Haruna Geza, Balarabe Hassan, Bala Lawan, Ahmed Rufa’i Yahuza, Abdullahi Abba, Aisha Abubakar Bichi and Dahiru Abbas Kachako as KANSIEC permanent commissioners appointed by the previous administration.
The house committed the nomination letter to the House Standing Committee on KANSIEC for necessary legislative action and mandated the committee to submit its report within two days.
The house adjourned its sitting to the next day in a motion moved by the majority leader Lawan Hussaini Dala.
