WE ARE COMMITTED TO PASSAGE OF BILLS THAT ARE WOMEN FRIENDLY -DEPUTY SPEAKER, KALU 18-03-24
By Sadiq Aminu The National Assembly has assured Nigerian women of the passage of bills that will guarantee their equal participation in governance process.
The Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu gave the assurance at Retreat for Senior Legislative aids in the office of the Deputy Speaker.
The Retreat was to scale up the capacity of the Senior Legislative Aids in research and other legislative work for effective service delivery.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr Benjamin Kalu, expressed concern about the expectations of Nigerians on the constitutional review Committee which he chaired.
Mr. Kalu said the capacity building was to enable the Legislative Aids come up with ideas that would help shape the nation’s democratic values.
The deputy speaker pointed out that the tenth Assembly was poised to amending laws that would change the narrative of women participation in Politics.
A former Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, noted that the performance of the Legislative Aids was key to the success of the office of their Principal.
The immediate past Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Mr Ahmed Wase called on the Senior Legislative aids to be loyal to the institution they serve.
The European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, tasked the constitutional review committee to ensure amendment in the nation’s electoral process.
The EU Ambassador pledged the commitment in partnering with the National Assembly to improve nation’s democratic system.
