KWARA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR SENSITIZATION ON MENACE OF DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE                                                                   26-03-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                          The Kwara State House of Assembly has called for more sensitization and enlightenment on the dangers of drugs and other substances abuse in the state.

The house made the call during plenary on a matter of general public importance titled “ The need for drug prevention and control policy in Kwara state” sponsored by Mr. Seun Oguniyi representing Ojomu-Balogun constituency.

Mr. Oguniyi during the lead debate, stressed the need to regulate the use of illicit drugs, which, according to him is at an alarming rate.

He said more enlightenment needed to be embarked upon to sensitize the people on the dangers inherent in the abuse of drugs.

Other lawmakers who spoke on the matter, pointed out that curbing menace of drug abuse can not be over emphasized.

Speaker Engineer Yakubu Danladi-Salihu while reading the prayers called on the State Government to direct the Ministry of Tertiary Education to ensure periodic tests are conducted by all tertiary institutions in the state for students in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA at approved testing centers by the agency.
