NAMA SUSPENDS IT’S EARLIER ANNOUNCED INCREASE IN NAVIGATIONAL CHARGES                                                                                29-07-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has suspended its earlier announced increase in navigational charges.

This is in response to the directive by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Mr Festus Keyamo.

In a statement signed by the NAMA’s Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, the suspension comes after the Minister recognized the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians and emphasized the need for further consultation before implementing any changes.

According to him, Minister’s directive underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of Nigerian citizens and stakeholders in the aviation sector.

The earlier announcement of the fee increase was made by NAMA’s Managing Director, Farouk Ahmed Umar, during the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondents Annual Conference in Lagos.

The statement notes that, the agency had proposed an increase in its fees and charges to sustain its operations and ensure the safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s airspace.

The planned increase, Alhaji Musa explained was intended to address the financial challenges faced by NAMA, which relies on statutory fees and charges for managing the airspace.

The agency had proposed a new unit rate/minimum charge for en-route of 18,000 Naira from 2,000 Naira per flight, and a unit rate/minimum charge for terminal navigation charge (TCN domestic) of 54,000 Naira from 6,000 Naira per flight, effective from September 1.
