ATBU GOVERNING COUNCIL APPOINTS PROFESSOR OF BIOCHEMISTRY AS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR                                                                                                                               10-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               The 12th Governing Council of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU Bauchi has approved the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Announcing the appointment in Bauchi, the Chairman Governing Council and Pro Chancellor of the institution, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada retired said the appointment followed the expiration of tenure of the former Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Ahmad Abdul’aziz.

Emmanuel Jekada said section 3 sub section 4 of the 2003 University laws as amended, empowers the governing council to appoint a Vice Chancellor for the University after fulfilling all laid down criteria and conditions for effective service delivery.

He said after receiving applications for the Vice Chancellor position, the council screened all the contenders and came out with the best who will run the affairs of the university for the next five years.

The Pro Chancellor further disclosed that the process started since February with an advertisement and after an interview was conducted, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba emerged first defeating two other contenders for the post.

Emmanuel Jekada used the medium to advise the new Vice Chancellor to join hands with the council in taking critical decisions that would bring about more academic excellence.

He expressed hope that Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba will run an open door policy so as to improve and change the negative indices of the university in terms of ranking and academic excellence.

Ibrahim Hassan Garba a Professor of Biochemistry, who obtained his Doctorate degree in Biochemistry, specializing in the enzymopathogenesis of host-parasite interactions in falciparum malaria infection, is a fellow of the Poverty-Related Diseases and Development PRD College.

Until his appointment, Professor Ibrahim Garba was the former Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and currently the Centre Leader of the the World Bank /FGN/NUC/ATBU Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards SPESSE Project, Centre of Excellence at the University.
