ORGANISED LABOUR IN NIGER STATE AGREES TO ACCEPT DELAY IN OCTOBER SALARY FOR MINIMUM WAGE IMPLEMENTION                                                                                 19-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               Organised Labour in Niger state has expressed its readiness to accept a delay in the payment of October salary to get the new minimum wage.

Chairman Niger State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Comrade ldrees Abdulkareem Lafene stated this in a chart with Newsmen in Minna the Niger state capital.

Comrade ldrees Abdulkareem Lafene explained that already they have written to the Niger State Government on its readiness to wait for a delayed salary for October, if the new minimum wage will be implemented stressing that they will not take anything less than the minimum wage in October.

The NLC Chairman, Niger State Council, who expressed hope that Niger state Government will implement the new minimum wage soon however said they have been meeting with state Government on this matter and that they are also going to meet on Monday to possibly iron out some grey areas.

According to him, Organized Labour in Niger State has advised the State Government that if it cannot go further than what the Federal Government has implemented it can simply adopt the one implemented by the Federal Government for the benefit of all.

Comrade Abdulkareem Lafene also said they have met with Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago before he traveled and kept telling them that they don’t problem of implementation at the state level but his fears is at the Local Governments level, where their salaries is almost four times better than the State Government.

While the staff strength of Local Government Areas is almost six times bigger than that of the state Government, considering that Local Government autonomy will start this month.

The NLC Chairman explained that they are also looking for other options to see how Local Governments implement the new minimum wage fully, because according to him whatever agreement they signed with Niger State Government there is no Chairman that will come out to say he cannot implement.

Comrade Abdulkareem Lafene would wants Civil Servants in Niger State to be patient as well as to pray for them towards ensuring the attainment of these noble objective so that at the end of it, it will be a win win situation for all.

It could be recalled that while some  few State Governments have commenced the implementation of new minimum wage others are yet which has forced NLC at the National level to give an instruction that every state must implement the new minimum wage by October.
