KANO STATE AGENCY FOR MASS EDUCATION LEADS THE WAY IN ERADICATING ILLITERACY-SURAJO MAHE                                                                                                      27-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               The Kano state agency for mass education SAME says it has over twenty thousand learners under going Second chance education and vocational training.

The acting executive secretary Alhaji Surajo Mahe Alkali made the disclosure in Kano.

Established in 1980 and backed by edict no 10 of 1891, the Kano state agency for mass education SAME is an autonomous body set up to eradicate illiteracy through continuing education and vocational training.

The mission of the agency is to provide and sustain second chance learning opportunities for adults youths and out of school children.

According to the acting executive secretary, SAME is well structured and offers conventional and intervention programs.

He pointed out that, the agency currently runs 65 conventional classes with 9,220 female learners across the 44 local government areas, in addition to 29 girl child classes with 865 learners.

“The 29 girl child classes for out of school girls provides an opportunity for girls hawking to receive knowledge and sell their goods within the centers during break”

Surajo maintained that the intervention programs such as the digital literacy by Radio program operates 88 classes with 50 learners each between the ages of 9-15 years.

The acting executive secretary noted that the PLANE window 3 catch up-intervention targeted Makoda, Ajingi and Minjir local government areas.

Speaking on he explained that vocational skills were incorporated into the literacy program where students received entrepreneurship skills in home economics, fashion and design and cosmetology, among others.

The acting executive secretary urged the public to seek knowledge by utilizing the second chance education opportunity provided by the Kano State Agency for Mass Education SAME.
