ULAMAS ADVOCATE FOR RESPONSIBLE MARRIAGE PRACTICES AND FAMILY EDUCATION TO AVOID BROKEN MARRIAGES 06-11-24
By Sadiq Aminu Parents have been advised to focus on promoting responsible marriage practices and addressing family-related issues, highlighting the importance of Islamic education and parental guidance.
The Chairman Kano State Council of Ulamas, Dr. Ibrahim Khalil, gave the advice during the fundraising and commissioning of Shettiman Malamai Center For Marriage Education in Potiskum, Yobe State.
Emphasizing on the need for parents to be moderate in their expectations when suitors approach for their daughters’ hands in marriage, Dr Khalil urged parents to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and prioritize responsible marriage practices.
He observed that inadequate counseling of couples and parental attitudes have broken so many marriages across the country.
The guest speaker at the occasion and Deputy Chairman, National Council of Ulamas Sheikh Mohammed Sambo Rigachukun echoed the importance of parental guidance, describing parents as the first educators of their children.
He called for increased focus on Islamic education and highlighting the importance of specialized classes for intending and married couples in the country, like those in the West, where such classes are commonplace.
Sheikh Rigachukun called on all Muslims to give the needed support and cooperation to the center, to help avoid broken marriages.
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Alh Saleh Samanja, highlighted government’s efforts to address domestic issues through setting up a reconciliatory committee, which has successfully resolved a significant number of cases.
He also mentioned the implementation of various empowerment programs and grants for unemployed couples.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs Alh Yusuf Umar underscored the importance of parental advice and Islamic education in preventing domestic violence, a significant issue in the Northern region.
He called upon parents to lower their expectations and be more accommodating when a suitor seeks their daughter’s hand in marriage.
Earlier the founder, Shettiman Malamai Center for Marriage Education, Mallam Abdulrazak Abdullahi Usman said the center established eleven months ago, aims to provide a platform for addressing marriage-related issues and the consequences of divorce.
He explained that the center would offer specialized classes for intending couples and skills acquisition programs for unemployed couples, widows, divorcees, and orphans.
Declaring Open the appeal fund, the senator representing ”Zone C” at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Hon Ahmed Lawal, represented by the Chairman United Marketers Association of Yobe State, Alh Nasiru Mato called on Muslims to handle religions issues with outmost importance.
Others who donated undisclosed amounts include Yobe State Governor, Commissioners Politicians and Well to do individuals.
The event, held at the Multi Purpose Hall of the Federal College of Education Potiskum, was attended by a diverse audience, including traditional and religious leaders, politicians, and members of the public.
This gathering signifies a strong emphasis on addressing societal challenges related to marriage and family life, by promoting responsible practices, encouraging Islamic education, and providing support services to build stronger families and a more harmonious society.
