WIFE OF ZAMFARA STATE GOVERNOR, FLAGGS OFF 16-DAY ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE, IN THE STATE                                                                           27-11-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The wife of Zamfara State Governor, Huriyya Dauda lawal has flagged off 16-day activism against Gender-Based Violence, GBV in the State.

The Wife of the governor who flagged off the campaign during a press conference in Gusau emphasised the need for collective action to combat gender-based violence (GBV) in the state and the country at large.

Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal said this year’s campaign focused on raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and advocating for policy reforms to prevent and respond to GBV, particularly violence against women and girls.

According to her, both women and men experienced Gender Based Violence, stressing that, but majority of the victims are women and children, which manifests in various forms, including physical, emotional and psychological abuse as well as economic exploitation among others.

She emphasised that, all critical stakeholders have a moral obligation to confront and challenge the norms and attitudes that perpetrate Gender Based Violence.

Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal further said the State government has taken urgent steps to address the menace of sexual and gender Based Violence.

She also appreciated Non governmental organizations, Ministries, parastatals, Religious leaders, media organisations, security Agencies for their role in safeguarding the right of women and children.
