HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SCREENS ACTING CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF                                                                                            28-11-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    The Acting Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has assured the citizens of the Commitment of Nigerian Army to bring lasting peace to the country if confirmed in a substantive position.
The Acting Chief of Army Staff gave this assurance when he appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Defence and Army for Screening at the National Assembly Complex Abuja
Lieutenant Genera Oluyede stressed that the security environment in the country requires a collective efforts from all stakeholders to achieve a desired result.
He called for strong bilateral and multilateral alliances with neighbouring countries, as well as deep collaboration and joint efforts by the services and other security agencies.
Earlier the Chairman House Committee on Defence, Mr. Babajimi Benson, who noted that over a decade, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have been at the forefront of responding to security challenges, said the significant successes recorded in recent years, shows that the country is winning war against terrorism, banditry and other forms of security challenges.
Mr. Benson emphasized that the House as a partner in the pursuit of a secure and prosperous Nigeria, the House remains steadfast in its commitment to legislative oversight and support for the Armed Forces.
He said the House would continue to provide the necessary legal frameworks, advocate for adequate funding and monitor the implementation of appropriations to ensure accountability and transparency in military operations.
Mr. Benson said the outcome of the screening exercise would be reviewed and presented to the House during plenary.
