YOBE STATE GOVERNMENT DISBURSES N2.9 BILLION AS FLOOD RELIEF AND SME SUPPORT                                                                                                                                          28-11-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    The Yobe State government has launched a N2.9 billion disbursement program to support victims of the 2024 floods, vulnerable individuals, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Governor Mai Mala Buni, launching the initiative, stated that the support aims to empower citizens, restore hope, and build resilience following the devastating floods.

He noted that the unprecedented flooding affected 441 communities across 17 local government areas, impacting over 20,000 households and resulting in 34 deaths.

Major roads, including sections of the Damaturu-Bayamari and Damaturu-Buni federal highways, were severely damaged.

The state government swiftly repaired these crucial roads, restoring access to affected communities. Similar repairs were undertaken on other damaged roads.

The initial emergency response included the distribution of food, non-food items, and ₦100 million in cash to the most affected areas.

Governor Buni reiterated the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Initiative, emphasizing continued support for women, people with disabilities, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups.

The government’s ongoing commitment includes free education, accessible healthcare, technological advancement, and economic incentives to empower the less privileged.

This latest disbursement will provide 25,500 flood victims and vulnerable individuals with ₦50,000 each, and 15,000 small business owners with ₦100,000 each.
