NUC APPROVES NEW UNIVERSITY FOR NIGER STATE                                                                                                                                            09-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The National Universities Commission, NUC has approved the establishment of the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action in Mokwa, Niger State.

This is in fulfillment of the requirements for approval by the Niger State Government with the formal presentation of the Strategic documents, including the relevant gazetted University Law, Academic Brief, and Physical Master Plan.

In a letter to the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, the acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, Chris Maiyaki, said the new university is now recognized as the 65th state university in Nigeria and the 277th in the Nigerian University System.

While pledging its support to the University, NUC enjoins the Niger State Government to take full advantage of the professional and technical advice that the Commission is statutorily required to provide State Governments on the establishment, sustainable funding, and operation of their universities.

According to the letter, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), are being notified of the establishment of the University.

It says the approval is geared towards further expanding access to education in Niger state.

The Niger State Government had written to the National Universities Commission, NUC, informing it of the establishment of the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa.

The letter read in part “Consequent upon the receipt of the Niger State Government’s letter dated 2nd October, 2024, notifying the National Universities Commission (NUC) of the establishment of the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, and the formal presentation of the Strategic documents, including the relevant gazetted University Law, Academic Brief, and Physical Master Plan, I write, on behalf of the National Universities Commission (NUC), to inform His Excellency, that with effect from Monday 2nd December, 2024, Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, Niger State, has been recognised as the 65th State University and 277th University in the Nigerian University System.
