By Sadiq Aminu                                                                Residents of Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto State have been thrown into darkness as a result of strike embarked upon by the members of the Nigeria union of electricity employees NUEE.

Investigation conducted by Africa247 reporter in Gusau, Zamfara state revealed that as early as 8am this morning light was withdrawn by members of the Union.

A statement made available to Adrica247 in Gusau by the Union Said the strike action became necessary to press home their demands and grievances.

Some of the demands are non implementation of 2024 new minimum wage,non payments of some allowances,non payments of death benefits of employees and lack of promotion of qualified personnel.
Others are approximately five years of outstanding pension payments., failure to provide exit benefits to employees that retired or resigned five years ago, inadequate working tool’s,improper placement of deserving employees and non payment of electricity rebates.

The statement signed by Union assistant secretary Shunom Yakubu directed workers of the company to abide by the strike action in their own interests.
Residents of the state who spoke to our reporter over the action called for quick resolution of the crisis.

They said that the strike action is ill timed and would further aggravates existing hardship being experienced by the people.

As at the time of filling this story no part of the state has electricity.
