FG COMMENCES TRAINING FOR NATIONAL HEALTH FELLOWS TO BOOST HEALTHCARE INNOVATION 27-02-25
By Sadiq Aminu The Federal Government has commenced training for successful applicants of the National Health Fellows Programme; a one-year initiative aimed at driving innovation and meaningful change in the health sector.
Addressing the fellows selected on merit from all 774 local government areas, the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, urged them to see the programme as a valuable opportunity presented to them by President Bola Ahmed
“So the President is giving you this as an opportunity. So what do you do with an opportunity? You seize it. Build yourself. Learn. You have Coaches, mentors who guide you. Particularly mentors in primary health care. Participate in the synchronous planning. Think deeply about your interest”, he stated.
Prof. Pate emphasized that the programme reflects the government’s commitment to investing in human capital development as part of the President’s health reform agenda.
He encouraged the fellows to view their training as an opportunity to learn and develop leadership traits of honesty courage and resilience as well as, for mentorship for a greater and prosperous Nigeria.
Speaking to newsmen after inspecting the various training centres in Abuja, Prof. Pate expressed confidence in the fellows, describing them as the future leaders of Nigeria’s health sector.
“These fellows will accelerate health sector reforms, improve accountability, and receive coaching and mentorship. They are contributing to the President’s vision of a healthy and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
He also revealed that while 359,000 applicants were not selected, they would be encouraged to participate in the Associate Health Fellows Programme to further engage in health sector development.
Participants at the training expressed excitement about the opportunity:
Godswill Michael from Nsenibom LGA, Akwa Ibom State, who said the transparent selection process renewed his faith in Nigeria, expressed the belief that the training will enhance his skills to contribute meaningfully to his community.
Also, Nadia Abdullahi Ahmed from Bauchi LGA, Bauchi State, described the programme as a stepping stone for greater achievements.
The Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations, Alaba Balogun in a statement explained that the National Health Fellows were selected through a merit-based process overseen by the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) Coordination Office under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
