EPE COUNCIL CHAIR REACTS TO FATAL SHOOTING OF YOUNG BOY, CALLS FOR CALM AND JUSTICE                                                                                                 27-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government Area Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has responded to the tragic killing of a young boy, Michael, who was allegedly shot by a member of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Mr. Agbomeji Idowu, in the early hours of today.

In an official statement issued shortly after the incident, the council boss expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing the news as shocking and deeply heartbreaking.

“As a mother and a public servant, I am devastated by this tragic event,” Animashaun said. “The pain of losing a child, especially in such a sudden and violent manner, is unimaginable. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family at this difficult time.”

Princess Animashaun assured the public that relevant law enforcement agencies have begun a full investigation into the matter and stressed that the local government is fully committed to supporting the pursuit of justice.

She appealed to the residents of Epe to remain calm and avoid acts of retaliation or violence, emphasizing that due process must be allowed to take its course. “I strongly urge all sons and daughters of Epe to resist the urge to take the law into their own hands. The authorities are actively handling the matter, and we must let them do their work,” she said.

The Chairman also warned against the circulation of misinformation and inciting narratives that could provoke unrest in the community. “This is not the time for propaganda or false claims. We must stay united, vigilant, and focused on the truth. Our community stands for peace and mutual respect, and we must not allow this tragedy to erode those values.”

Princess. Animashaun confirmed that her office remains in close contact with security agencies and that the situation is being closely monitored. She reiterated the local government’s commitment to ensuring accountability and upholding the rule of law.

“As your Chairman, I want to reassure the people of Epe that justice will be diligently pursued. We will continue to follow up until a fair resolution is reached,” she added.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the Epe community, prompting calls for a thorough and transparent investigation. Authorities have yet to release additional details on the suspect or the circumstances leading to the shooting.

Meanwhile, the Council Chairman’s appeal for calm has resonated widely, with many in the community echoing her call for peace and justice.

Funeral arrangements for the deceased are yet to be announced, as investigations continue.
