OVER 200,000 STUDENTS FROM 150 SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NASARAWA STATE TO BENEFIT FROM THE AGILE PROJECT 17-06-25
By Sadiq Aminu More than 200,000 students from 150 secondary schools across Nasarawa State are set to acquire vital digital skills under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.
This was disclosed by the State Project Coordinator of AGILE, Hajiya Aisha Isoga, during the opening of a five-day training workshop for Master Trainers on Digital Literacy held in Lafia, the state capital.
The training brought together selected participants from the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education who already possess foundational knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The aim is to further enhance their digital competencies, enabling them to serve as Master Trainers.
These Master Trainers will subsequently train secondary school teachers across the 150 schools involved, who will in turn impart digital literacy skills to their students, particularly adolescent girls in alignment with the AGILE Project’s objectives.
Speaking at the event, Hajiya Aisha Isoga emphasized that digital literacy is essential for empowering the girl child and helping her reach her full potential in today’s digital-driven world.
“Digital literacy opens doors to a world of opportunities, equipping girls with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive academically and economically,” she stated.
Also addressing participants, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, who officially flagged off the training, highlighted the role of digital literacy not only in education but also in social and economic empowerment.
“In this fast-changing world, digital skills are no longer optional—they are essential. I urge you to embrace this training with commitment, as the future of our students depends on how well we prepare them today,” Dr. Mamman said.
Participants Peter Obotu and Adama Mohammed lauded the initiative, describing it as a significant milestone in promoting ICT knowledge and expanding access to quality education for girls in the state.
Over 50 Master Trainers have been selected for this initial phase of the programme, which marks the official launch of Nasarawa State’s digital literacy training under the AGILE Project .
