REPS SLAMS POLYTECHNIC RECTORS FOR SNUBBING CRUCIAL MEETING……….

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics has criticized rectors of federal polytechnics for failing to attend a key meeting aimed at improving technical education in Nigeria.

Committee Chairman, Fuad Kayode, expressed frustration that less than 30% of invited rectors showed up. He accused them of disrespecting the National Assembly and showing little commitment to reforms meant to benefit their institutions.

Kayode reminded them that the same committee has championed causes like creating a National Polytechnic Commission, fighting the HND/BSc dichotomy, and pushing for more funding, yet the rectors failed to cooperate.

He warned that repeated absences would lead to sanctions.

Some rectors present, including those from Daura, Zamfara, and Bauchi, apologized and blamed communication issues. They promised better cooperation moving forward.
