CONSTITUTION REVIEW: REPS PUSH FOR INCLUSIVE PROCESS, URGE CITIZENS PARTICIPATION……….

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The House of Representatives has pledged an inclusive approach to the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution.

At a visit to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna (represented by Deputy Gov. Hadiza Balarabe), Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki called on citizens from Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina to attend the North-West Zonal Public Hearing.

MADAKI emphasized that all submissions will be considered and sent to State Assemblies. He reminded Nigerians that any amendment requires approval from at least 24 state assemblies and the FCT.

Gov. Sani’s deputy praised the decentralized process and urged all groups, especially women and youth to participate.

She stressed that the issues under review, state policing, devolution of powers, gender equity, judicial and electoral reform affect everyone and must reflect public input.

In the North-East, Constitution Review Committee Chair, Isa Ali, visited Borno’s Governor Zulum (represented by Deputy Kadafur), assuring that the views of the people, including on issues like the role of traditional rulers, will be heard.

Kadafur applauded the lawmakers’ efforts and highlighted the ongoing insecurity in the region as a major concern.

Citizens are urged to speak up and shape the future of Nigeria’s constitution.
