NIGERIA SLAMS CANADIAN COURT RULING……….

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigerian government has rejected a Canadian Federal Court’s decision labeling some Nigerian political parties as “terrorist organisations.”

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the ruling as baseless, reckless, and an unacceptable interference in Nigeria’s democracy. The case reportedly stemmed from a Nigerian asylum seeker in Canada.

The government stressed that political parties in Nigeria are lawful and central to its vibrant democracy, warning that such false classifications could create unnecessary tension.

Nigeria urged Canada to retract the ruling and work diplomatically to correct it, while also cautioning citizens abroad against damaging the country’s image in pursuit of asylum claims.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorism globally but called on the international community to disregard the Canadian cour’s decision.
