HOUSE BACKS TINUBU’S BORROWING PLANS – SPEAKER

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, says the House fully supports President Bola Tinubu’s borrowing strategy, dismissing claims that lawmakers opposed it.

Speaking at the African Network of Parliamentary Budget Offices Conference, he explained that borrowing is a necessary tool to finance infrastructure, boost growth, and protect vulnerable Nigerians. He assured that all loans will remain transparent, sustainable, and aligned with Nigeria’s debt strategy and global standards.

Tajudeen stressed that funds under Tinubu’s leadership are being directed to transformative projects in power, transport, and agriculture, not consumption. He also warned that Nigeria loses about $18 billion yearly to financial crimes, calling for stronger fiscal oversight.
