CLERICS TRAINED IN KANO TO TACKLE FAKE NEWS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Religious leaders in Kano have undergone training on combating fake news and promoting media literacy. The two-day workshop, organized by Alkalanci, a Hausa-language fact-checking group, equipped clerics with skills to identify and counter false information, especially on social media.

Editor of Alkalanci, Malam Alhassan Bala, said the initiative would help clerics promote truth and critical thinking within their communities. The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, represented by Alhaji Abbas Dalhatu, and the Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulama, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, both commended the program, describing it as timely and impactful.

The training attracted imams and clerics from within and outside Kano.
