SWAN SUSPENDS BOYCOTT, OPENS DOOR FOR DIALOGUE WITH NFF

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has suspended its nationwide boycott of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) activities. The decision follows assurances that no immediate changes will be made to the NFF Statutes during the 2025 Annual General Assembly.

SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin, explained that the association is committed to protecting the integrity of Nigerian football through responsible media advocacy. He said the suspension shows readiness to embrace dialogue, provided there is sincerity and transparency.

Benjamin stressed that the media remains a critical stakeholder in football and must not be sidelined in governance. While welcoming the NFF’s clarification, he added that SWAN will continue to push for the inclusion of sports journalists in decision-making processes, in line with global standards and Nigeria’s sports policies.

He expressed hope that the new engagement will lead to lasting reforms that strengthen transparency, inclusivity, and credibility in football administration.
