KWARA POLICE INTERCEPT CANNABIS HIDDEN IN YAMS, ARREST SUSPECTS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Kwara State Police Command has dismantled a major drug trafficking and kidnapping syndicate after intercepting 127 bags of cannabis concealed under tubers of yam. The operation, carried out in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, Nigeria Forest Security Service, and local vigilantes, took place along the Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode axis on September 26, 2025.

Two suspects, Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both from Niger State, were arrested at the scene. In a related raid, security operatives also apprehended Mohammed Abubakar, Hussain, and Tukur Ibrahim, a notorious kidnapper linked to the August 8 Babanla invasion.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the synergy among security agencies, stressing that Kwara will remain unsafe for criminals. The seizure is one of the biggest drug interceptions in the state this year, reinforcing the crackdown on organized crime and illicit drugs.
