NGO URGES STRONGER ACTION AS KANO FACES PUBLIC HEALTH RISKS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI) has urged the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) to step up measures against disease outbreaks in the state.

During an advocacy visit to KNCDC’s Director General, Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Abbas, V-PeSDI Coordinator, Mrs. Hannatu Suleiman Abba, stressed that vulnerable groups are most affected during disease outbreaks due to poor living conditions and limited access to healthcare.

She commended the state government for setting up the KNCDC and called for closer collaboration with local NGOs to boost community-level disease surveillance and awareness.

In response, Prof. Abbas praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s health initiatives, noting that proactive efforts, such as vaccination and preventive programs have curbed disease spread in Kano. He also assured continued partnership with V-PeSDI to enhance public health interventions.
