THREE JAILED FOR CURRENCY COUNTERFEITING IN KWARA

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Federal High Court in Ilorin, presided over by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, has sentenced three men to prison for possessing fake Naira notes.

The convicts, Olaitan Dina, an aluminium fabricator from Ilorin; Opeyemi Jeremiah, a bakery worker from Oke-Ero; and Adebayo Abiola from Ekiti, were found guilty of currency counterfeiting.

Justice Awogboro ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, describing counterfeiting as a grave offence against society. Dina was sentenced to 18 months, while Jeremiah and Abiola each got 15 months imprisonment, all without an option of fine.

The court ordered that the seized fake notes be forfeited to the Federal Government.
