FG RELEASES ₦2.3BN TO CLEAR UNIVERSITY SALARY AND PROMOTION ARREARS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Federal Government has released ₦2.3 billion to clear salary and promotion arrears in federal universities nationwide.

Education Minister, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, said the funds, processed through the Office of the Accountant-General reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to staff welfare and clearing inherited backlogs.

He added that government is finalising the release of pension remittances to NUPEMCO and has approved the full integration of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) into salaries by 2026.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that the administration will continue engaging unions in good faith while ensuring that all agreements remain realistic and fiscally sustainable.

He expressed confidence that the reforms will bring lasting peace to the university system and strengthen Nigeria’s education sector.
