NIGERIA REAFFIRMS GLOBAL CLIMATE COMMITMENT AS VP SHETTIMA RETURNS FROM COP30

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the COP30 Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil, where he highlighted Nigeria’s leadership in global climate action and commitment to a green transition.

At the Leaders’ Climate Summit hosted by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s statement titled “The Rational Soul of Nature,” urging world leaders to value nature’s economic importance and ensure fair, predictable financing for its protection.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s climate vision is a national responsibility to secure a sustainable future. On the sidelines, he also held strategic meetings on carbon market cooperation, expected to attract up to $3 billion annually to support Nigeria’s low-carbon growth.
