SENATE REJECTS NNPCL’S EXPLANATION ON MISSING ₦210TRN

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has rejected the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) written response on the unaccounted ₦210 trillion reported between 2017 and 2023.

Committee Chairman, Senator Aliyu Wadada (Nasarawa West), said the explanation failed to address key financial discrepancies raised by the Auditor-General’s reports. The NNPCL management had earlier been directed to appear before the committee but failed to show up on November 11, 2025.

Wadada described NNPCL’s conduct as “evasive and unacceptable,” saying the committee would no longer entertain written representations from the company.

He revealed that NNPCL claimed ₦103 trillion as accrued expenses and ₦107 trillion as receivables, figures the committee found contradictory and unjustifiable.

“The ₦103 trillion must be returned to the Treasury,” Wadada stated, warning that the committee would subpoena former NNPCL and NAPIMS officials if current management fails to provide clear answers.

All members of the committee supported the chairman’s stance, insisting on full accountability for the missing ₦210 trillion.
