The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, says the Authority will step up enforcement of rules on dangerous goods, wildlife control, and conflict resolution across Nigerian airports.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 FAAN Safety Week in Lagos, Kuku said safety remains the heart of aviation operations, not just an annual event. She cited recent cases in Abuja and Kano where passengers attempted to carry hazardous items into terminals, stressing the need for better awareness and compliance.
She added that refresher training had been conducted for staff and airline personnel in line with NCAA safety standards.
The FAAN boss said this year’s theme, “Navigating Conflicts for a Safer Aviation Industry,” emphasizes the need for better communication between airport staff, airlines, and passengers to prevent unnecessary disputes.
Kuku also expressed concern about increasing wildlife activity and encroachment near airports, noting that FAAN is engaging communities and promoting proper waste management to reduce bird strikes and runway risks.
