The Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) has trained traditional barbers across the state to help improve early detection and reporting of diphtheria.
KNCDC DG, Dr. Muhammad Adamu Abbas, said barbers play a key role in disease surveillance because of their daily interaction with the community. He stressed the need for quick identification of symptoms and timely reporting to stop the spread.
Sarkin Askan Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Yunusa Nabango, praised the initiative, saying it will strengthen grassroots health protection. Participants also expressed readiness to apply and share the knowledge gained.
The exercise is part of KNCDC’s ongoing efforts to boost public awareness and strengthen response to health threats in Kano.
