SULTAN CALLS FOR MOON SIGHTING

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Muslims across the country to look out for the new moon of Jumada Assani tomorrow, Thursday, 29th Jumada Ula 1447 AH (20 November 2025).

According to a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu of the Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, anyone who sights the moon should report to the nearest village or district head for onward communication to the Sultan.

The statement explains that the monthly moon sighting helps keep the Islamic calendar accurate, ensuring wider acceptance of important dates like the start of Ramadan.
