RMAFC CHAIRMAN REASSURES KOGI GOVERNOR ON 13% DERIVATION AND RESOURCE OPTIMIZATION

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

RMAFC Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu OFR, has reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to ensure Kogi State receives its rightful 13% derivation funds as an officially recognized oil-producing state. He gave the assurance during a visit by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his team to the Commission’s headquarters on 18th November 2025.

Dr. Shehu emphasized fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to the law, noting that Kogi State would get all revenues due to it from oil, gas, and solid minerals. He pledged technical support, data provision, and guidance to help the state maximize its resource potential. A joint committee involving RMAFC, NUPRC, and Kogi State was immediately set up to address pending issues.

Governor Ododo expressed concern that Kogi has yet to benefit from its mineral wealth, especially the 13% derivation. He voiced confidence in RMAFC’s support and urged clarity on the state’s oil and gas activities to boost development.

Other officials highlighted the need for accurate data, understanding post-PIA frameworks, and strengthening monitoring of solid minerals. NUPRC representatives confirmed ongoing production activities and stressed the importance of security and infrastructure for investment growth.

The session reaffirmed the shared commitment of RMAFC and Kogi State to strengthen fiscal governance, promote transparency, and ensure that natural resources directly benefit the people.
